Excursions ... ... into a colourful natural scenery

The Val Badia in the heart of the Dolomites is a natural paradise that offers innumerable possibilities for active vacationers: hiking, mountaineering, climbing, biking, swimming, skiing, snowboarding, playing tennis, golfing, horseback riding and even mushroom picking. Regardless of what you choose, rugged cliffs and wide alpine meadows will always surround you.

However, Alta Badia has more than just nature to offer: the valley with its charming villages is characterised by centuries-old traditions. Tasty farmhouse dishes, small churches and a language that fascinates even though - or perhaps precisely because - you don't understand a word of it.

There are more than 400 km of perfectly signposted hiking trails waiting for you on your holiday in Val Badia. The most important thing is though: whether you're a beginner or an experienced mountain climber, there's something to satisfy everyone's needs.

Summit tour to the Piz Boé: If you are aiming high, then this tour to the 3152 m high Piz Boé is just the thing. The highest peak of the Sella massif can be climbed without any climbing equipment, but you will nevertheless need to be in good physical condition, have mountain experience and be sure-footed.

A walk to the Pisciadú waterfall: This easy hike for adults and children runs across sunny meadows and through green forests to the waterfall at the foot of the Sella massif. Along the way you cross various bridges that lead over babbling brooks.

Having fun in nature seems to be the motto of a family holiday in Val Badia. Be sure to pay a visit to SummerPark La Crusc: a circular trail that leads past two huts and various play stations where your little ones can try their hand at panning for gold and discover a dragon's cave.

A trip to the Corvara biotope lake is particularly refreshing. A bathing pond, a children's pool, a regeneration pond, a sunbathing lawn and a children's playground ensure play and bathing fun here.

Last but not least, those who want to experience woodland life up close should visit the 30 red deer and fallow deer in the Sompunt deer enclosure. You can reach it via a leisurely walk.

Cycling has a long tradition in Alta Badia, as the many events that take place in the warm season demonstrate. The most famous are the Sellaronda Bike Day, the Dolomites Bike Day and the Maratona dles Dolomites. Thousands of cycling enthusiasts set off together over the Dolomite passes.

Many of the mountain pass roads are extremely popular with competitive cyclists. Numerous turns, hairpin bends and sections with steep inclines provide the right challenge, for instance on the tour to the Würzjoch.

Off the paved roads, a mountain bike paradise is waiting at 1300 to 2000 m above sea level. The Sellaronda MTB Tour has also made a name for itself here. It goes through four Dolomite valleys. Mountain railways take the bikers high up into the mountains, and single trails take them back down into the valley. You can experience a special adrenaline kick on the two freeride routes on the Gardenaccia.

Various vie ferrate adorn the steep rock faces of the Dolomites. The most well-known is probably the Pisciadú via ferrata, which captivates with vertical passages and suspension bridges. The Kleine Cier-Spitze via ferrata and the Les Cordes via ferrata with great viewpoints are equally worthwhile.

In Alta Badia, climbing is not only done in the mountains, but also in the valley. A high ropes course for the whole family has been built in a larch forest in Colfosco, and if it should rain, the Boulder Centre Corvara calls for training.

In the past centuries, the poor peasant community often did not have much food at their disposal. So they made the best of what they had and developed a cuisine that still makes our mouths water today: Barley soup, Turtres (deep-fried dumplings filled with spinach or sauerkraut), Schlutzkrapfen (ravioli with spinach) and Furtaies (deep-fried desserts) are an integral part of Alta Badia's cuisine and continue to enchant locals and tourists alike.

The gastronomic diversity of the Ladin region can be explored during various events. In winter, for example, top chefs serve their delicious masterpieces at selected huts in the ski area. You can also take a tasting tour with a ski guide and sommelier.
