Chiusa and its villages

Artists' town and high alpine delights

The small town of Chiusa in the Valle Isarco was once bustling with artists. Even Albrecht Dürer stopped in Chiusa on his trip to Italy and captured the town on paper. You can follow in his footsteps today and get to the Dürerstein by taking a stroll. It is not surprising that Chiusa was so popular, as the town offers a wonderful view of the Sarentino Alps and the Dolomites.

The villages in the surrounding area also have a lot to offer. For instance, there is the chestnut village of Velturno with its over 3000 chestnut trees. Barbiano with its leaning church tower and its picturesque hamlets is definitely worth a visit. The hamlet of Sant'Ingenuino can be reached via a 55 m high panoramic bridge.

Vacationers can expect pure nature on the Villanderer Alm, one of the largest high alpine pastures in South Tyrol. The high plateau is a paradise for hikers in summer and winter. Cross-country skiers also get their money's worth here. In the village of Villandro you can also see evidence of settlements from the Stone, Bronze and Roman Ages by visiting the Archeopark.
