How to Reach the South Tyrolean Wine Road

South Tyrol's south is easily accessible by plane, train, or car.

By air

The nearest airport to the South Tyrolean Wine Road is located in Bolzano. Other nearby airports include Verona and Innsbruck. For international connections, the airports in Munich, Treviso, Bergamo, Bologna, and Milan are also recommended.

By Car

  • From the NORTH:
    Take the A22 highway exit at Bolzano Sud – South Tyrolean Wine Road (Appiano 10 km, Caldaro 15 km, Termeno 20 km, Cortaccia 25 km, Magrè 30 km)
  • From the SOUTH:
    Take the A22 highway exit at Neumarkt/Auer – South Tyrolean Wine Road (Magrè 5 km, Cortaccia 8 km, Termeno 12 km, Caldaro 18 km, Appiano 23 km)

From November to April, it is recommended to rent a vehicle with all-wheel or front-wheel drive. Avoid vehicles with rear-wheel drive. Be sure to ask for winter tires and snow chains to be prepared for winter conditions.

By Train and Bus

Travel comfortably and environmentally friendly by rail to South Tyrol's south

  • From GERMANY:
    There are several daily direct connections that can take you from Munich to Bolzano or Merano in less than four hours without the need to change trains. You can find information on train connections at Deutsche Bahn DB.
  • From AUSTRIA:
    Regular connections from Kufstein via Innsbruck and the Brenner Pass bring you from all parts of Austria to Bolzano or Merano. You can find the train connections at the Austrian Federal Railways ÖBB.
  • From SWITZERLAND:
    he Railjet Express & Eurocity comfortably takes you from Switzerland via Innsbruck and the Brenner Pass to South Tyrol. Trains from Swiss Federal Railways SBB operate several times a day from Zurich, Basel, or Geneva.

Direct bus connections are available from Bolzano or Merano to the wine regions along the South Tyrolean Wine Road. Travel time depends on the destination and ranges from about 20 to 40 minutes. Alternatively, you can use the "Südtirol Transfer" shared or individual transfer service, which will take you from your stop directly to your holiday accommodation.
